The protagonist of Coffee Talk is not gendered by anyone, and has an androgynous appearance. There are hints of relationships between two men (Gala, the werewolf and Hyde, the vampire) and between two women (Aqua, the mermaid and Myrtle, the half-orc) but none of them are explicit in the game. This is problematic, because the heterosexual relationships are often referred to explicitly.

The game also includes an alien character who uses they/them pronouns, but they do this because they 'don't understand how gender works' and also use collective 'we/us' terms whenever they talk about themselves.
