Dead of Winter has playable queer characters, and the level of story within the game allows for players to engage in queer relationships. These relationships have related plots for players to engage with. Isaac Vega, co-designer of Dead of Winter, has said that games are a way for players to experience new stories, which includes allowing players to interact with someone who is 'gay, or trans, or from a different race' in the hope of starting a conversation.
