Eight Sweets is about the relationship between Robin and Heather, which is feeling strained while Robin travels the world and Heather stays home running her bakery and sweets shop. It is set in Canada in 1966, the year before the legislation for homosexuality to be decriminalised was introduced. Though the protagonist is worried about this prejudice, she is portrayed as a heroic adventurer who is famous and well-liked by the populace.
