In Hollow Knight, there are two canonical same-gender relationships. The player-character can help two men find one another and begin dating, which is revealed in the end-game and is awarded with an achievement. A relationship between two women—one of whom has passed away—is discussed, and the player-character can help the living woman deliver flowers to the grave of her partner.

The player-character is referred to throughout the game as 'The Knight' and uses they/them pronouns. It is hinted that they may be asexual / aromantic, as they show no romantic or sexual interest in NPCs throughout their journey, but this may also be due to their focus on the task at hand.
