Namco High leaves the gender of its player-character, Cousin, deliberately ambiguous to allow the player to interpret the protagonist's sexuality and gender identity however they like. Cousin is able to date anyone, including men, women, and other gender-ambiguous characters, as well as a range of non-human characters within the game such as aliens, birds, and an anthropomorphised space ship. Namco High is influenced by Homestuck, a popular webcomic with the same writer.
