The protagonist of Ticket to Earth, Rose, is a lesbian woman of colour. She is in a relationship with Xen, a technical wiz, and their pairing forms the emotional focus of the story. The developers of Ticket to Earth—Robot Circus—are a small (eight staff) but diverse team, who have been able to use their own experiences in writing the game's story.
