Theories and unconfirmed headcanons surrounding the sexuality of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider have some players thinking that she may have an intimate relationship with Samantha Nishimura. This has been supported by an interview with writer Rhianna Pratchett [broken link], who indicates that she would have liked to make Lara gay, but at the release of Tomb Raider, did not believe Crystal Dynamics was ready. One respondent to the Queer Representation (2016) survey said that this unconfirmed relationship was their favourite representation of sexuality in games.
