Castaway! Love's Adventure

Being marooned on a deserted island with a bunch of (mostly) strangers doesn’t sound like a fun time – but if it’s the way you meet the gorgeous sassy doctor who is also the love of your life, then that sort of softens the blow.

This visual novel is essentially LOST with a boat instead of a plane, and with far fewer people (and sadly none of them are Evangeline Lilly). Also the doctor, Serena Zhang, is far more interesting that LOST’s doctor, in that unlike Jack she has a personality.* Serena is your only option for a female love interest, but she’s a good one. Sarcastic, focused, intelligent… you could do much worse. The protagonist is a twenty-something journalist with purple hair who is fairly awkward, so uhh… I managed to relate pretty easily. All in all, it was a pretty cute story.

You should play this if…

You like LOST and want to play it in a much gayer, visual novel form? Okay, so there actually aren’t many similarities to LOST other than the deserted island thing, so maybe just play it if you want something with a little adventure. I played this on Android through the ‘Lovestruck’ app, which forces you to wait for ‘tickets’ to recharge so that you can read the next chapter, but at least it’s free.

*I’m sorry Jack fans, he’s just an easy target. Also I really like LOST, but I’ve only seen the first season and a half at this point, so for all I know he gets better. (Probably not better than Kate, though.)
