Cosplay Maker

A femme looking person wearing a dress with armoured shoulder pads standing next to a mannequin bust and a shelf full of sewing equipment and a computer.
I admire people who cosplay, I really do. I don’t have the patience or the skill to create anything even remotely wearable, and this game just really cemented that idea for me.

Cosplay Maker basically has you working to the schedule of a serious cosplayer, and includes a story that gives an idea of what it’s like to get into that community. It’s not through rose-coloured glasses, either – things get pretty nasty, and it’s not shy in showing that like many communities, there are some toxic people and attitudes. Not that we’d know anything about that as gamers, obviously (ha). Mechanically, this is about allocating your time and prioritizing activities – whether that’s working to get money to buy materials, or making the costumes themselves, or making friends with other cosplayers. Talk to them enough and you can ‘date’ them – though this didn’t seem to have an impact on anything else in the game.

You should play this if…

You want some insight into the life of a cosplayer, or are a cosplayer that wants to tread familiar territory. I found it a little dull (gameplay-wise – the story is kind of cool) but if you are into cosplaying, it might be more your thing than mine!
