Starlight Vega

Two femme looking people, one with horns, stand inside a living room with stairs behind them and paintings on the walls. Dialogue reads 'Ahhh, but I'm so glad the stone got attached to such a cute girl.'.
It’s strange just how often a game allows me to choose between romancing my best friend, and romancing a demon. And by ‘often’, I mean that it’s now happened more than twice, and that’s definitely more than I expected.

The novelty with Starlight Vega is that both options (demon and BFF) are female, and both actually lead to interesting and well fleshed-out relationships. The plot revolves around the magical bind between the protagonist Aria and the demon Lyria, so I assumed the writers would have favoured that choice, but I was pleasantly surprised. Choosing my best friend Melody actually lead to a cute realization of long-held feelings, and I actually found myself wondering how the heck any other path would make sense – but then I went back and picked Lyria, and it was just as good. Apparently, there’s also a way to end the game with a ‘harem’ (how big that harem is I have no idea), which I can also imagine would make sense. So, well done, devs, for making a visual novel that doesn’t force you in a particular direction.

You should play this if…

You’re interested in a sweet visual novel about demons, an alternate dimension of sorts, and a best friend who help you out even if you don’t follow her romantic path. An actual female friendship that isn’t about appreciating each other’s boobs! Revolutionary!
